Your voice belongs to you
We’re asking for two of the most personal things a family has. You deserve to know exactly what happens to them, in plain words rather than a wall of legal text.
What we ask for, and why
- Your first name and email, so you can sign in and we can reach you about your account.
- A recording of your voice, so stories can be read aloud in it.
- Your child's first name, age, and anything you tell us they love — this is what makes a story feel like it was written for them rather than for anyone.
- We don't ask for your child's surname, birthday, school, photograph or location, because we don't need any of it.
What happens to your voice
- Your recording is sent to our speech provider, ElevenLabs, who create a voice model from it. That model is used for exactly one thing: reading your family's stories.
- Your voice is not used to train any public or shared model. It is not made available to other users. It is not sold, licensed or shared for advertising.
- Nobody else can reach your recordings. Story audio is served only to your signed-in account, never from a public address someone could stumble across or guess.
- When you delete a voice, we delete the model at our provider and every story recording made with it. The written stories stay in your library unless you delete those too.
How stories are written
- Stories are written by a language model from OpenAI. We send it your child's first name, age, the things you've said they love, and any note you add for that night.
- We don't send your email, your voice, or anything that identifies your family beyond that first name.
- Your stories are private to your account. We don't publish them or show them to other families.
Deleting things
- Delete a single story from the story itself.
- Delete a voice from the Voices page — the model and all recordings made with it go immediately.
- Delete a child's profile from the Children page, which also removes every story made for them.
- Delete your whole account from the Account page. That removes your voices from our provider, every story and recording, your children's profiles, and cancels any subscription. There is no waiting period and no recovery.
How we see whether the app is working
- We use three analytics tools — Microsoft Clarity, PostHog and Google Analytics — to understand where people get stuck: which buttons get tapped, where a page gets abandoned, what breaks.
- Clarity and PostHog can record what a screen looked like during a visit. We have deliberately masked everything behind sign-in, so those recordings show where you clicked and scrolled, not your child's name, your stories, or your email address.
- When you're signed in we tag your session with your account's internal id, so we can follow one journey through the app. That id means nothing outside our own database — we don't send your email or anything about your child to either tool.
- Page addresses are stripped of identifiers before they are reported, so analytics shows that someone opened “a story” rather than which story it was. Your story titles are not sent either.
- None of these tools ever receives your voice recording or your story audio.
Payments
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- We keep a customer reference from Stripe so we know which plan you're on.
Children and consent
- StoryVoice is for parents and carers. The account belongs to an adult, and children don't sign in.
- Only record your own voice, or the voice of someone who is with you and has agreed to it. Please don't upload a recording of somebody who hasn't consented.
